As an artist, I have been moved by many things in life.
However, during my studies, I felt that I was lost on my pilgrimage here on earth.
Lost; just as the sheep Jesus mentions in one of His parables.
During that season I was doing the asking, the seeking and the knocking. God was revealing Himself steadily to me, in these lost years.
My thesis was called: ‘’SEARCHING FOR THE SOUL OF MY ART IN THE SOUL OF THE WORLD’’ I saw the thesis as a way to challenge myself.
Not just in my art, but in life.
hese existential questions are important. We need to dare to ask ourselves the hard questions. So I did. While I was trying to find the meaning of creation in and of itself. While I was trying to seek the truth.
God drew me to Him. He found me.
I irrevocably understood the Truth, the Way and the Life.
Thus the realisation, that God is the ultimate Artist of all, fell on my soul. I am His brush and He is the painter. I am the clay and He is the potter.
A year after I graduated, God asked me to lay down my tools and to seek Him with all that I am. He imprinted this verse on my heart: ‘’Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you’’.
So I did. Not knowing if I would ever create again. I had to put down my idols faithfully.
For nothing in this world compares to the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
Now after three and half years, He opened a door for me to start painting again. Not only in the physical sense, but spiritually also. I was debating myself for the longest time. I need to trust that God has edified me. Pruned into a tree that bears fruit. Good fruit.
Today I am creating, not for the glory of me, but for the glory of the Most High. Our beautiful God.
My work is inspired by the parables Jesus spoke of, verses or stories from the bible, or simply the creation of God around me. Anything that God prompts me to make, I will make. Soon I hope to work with other materials as well. But for now, I will paint.
he reason why my language in painting is abstraction, is because Jesus spoke in parables. Abstraction, to me, is a synonym to these parables.
You have to look and listen a bit deeper to understand.
Jesus says those who have ears will hear and those who have eyes will see. He, His kingdom and His righteousness is my biggest inspiration.
Now, my work will never be what our Beautiful God is. But those who have eyes will see the stories behind these paintings.
I want these paintings to carry a substance from the mystery of the words and stories that are revealed within the bible.
I hope to bring more of God in this world. Because for far too long evil and darkness have corrupted worlds, such as the art world.
It had corrupted me for a good amount of time. I hope to stir up the lost to seek Jesus and refresh the ones who are found by Jesus.
With this I hope to have given you a glimpse of my inner calling through this body of work.
May the Father cover me in this pilgrimage.
May the Holy Spirit inspire me to make work.
May Jesus Christ be with me and with you all.
Ameen.
